Martin has performed aviation terminal inspections for over 25 years. He began his tenure at Mobil Oil Australia performing inspections to Joint Inspection Group (JIG) 3 specifications throughout Australia and the Pacific Islands. After the 1999 ExxonMobil merger, Martin relocated to the United States to oversee the ExxonMobil US Aviation Terminal Inspection Program, which covered more than 75 proprietary and third-party terminals. As a JIG Inspector, he continued to inspect terminals against the JIG 3 standards around the world. In 2007, Martin was part of the team that developed the Aviation Fuel Quality Inspection Program for the Global ExxonMobil Refinery Network.

Martin was the Inaugural Chair of the US Shared Inspection Program and a coauthor of the API 1595 Recommended Practice Design, Construction, Operation, Maintenance and Inspection of Aviation Pre-Airfield Storage Terminals. He also contributed to the API 1543 Documentation, Monitoring and Laboratory Testing of Aviation Fuel During Shipment from Refinery to Airport.

As the ExxonMobil representative to the EI/ JIG committee, Martin contributed to updates of Version 2 of EI/JIG 1530 and ensured global implementation of the new standards at ExxonMobil. He was also part of the sub-team that developed the EI/JIG 1530 Assessment Checklist and has been inspecting refineries and terminals against the EI/JIG 1530 Standard since 2014.

Martin has an intimate practical and working knowledge of the EI/JIG 1530 Standards and an expert understanding of what is required to effectively implement the standard at aviation facilities.
